Social Mission: Aiken Center for the Arts
There are dozens of ways to find yourself at Aiken Center for the Arts.
You can be inspired by the ever-changing artwork in the Main Gallery Exhibit, which features artists from around the world as well as local and regional talent from the South. Wander through the Aiken Artist Guild Gallery, the Brooks Gallery, and the School Exhibitions to see the up-and-coming artists. Browse through The Gallery Shop to discover the beautiful, handcrafted pieces created by local artists. You can even embrace your inner artist and discover your creative hidden talents through Aiken Center for the Arts’ classes and workshops.
This fall, Aiken Center for the Arts has introduced a new series for you to enjoy: Stories From a Big Chair. Gather around as perspectives are shared, points of connection are built, and wisdom and inspiration are unearthed amongst those attending. Each evening will be centered around a common theme found in the current exhibition, and the storytelling will be accompanied by wine paired with the theme.
“We have so much in common, yet every sit-in is unique,” said local author and host Gary Finnan. In a supportive space where people can listen and be heard, the voice of human experience guides the evening. Where will it take us?
Stories From the Big Chair is a perfect fit for everyone that is excited to engage with the power and craft of storytelling, and who are invested in keeping the art of storytelling alive. The stories shared around the big chair are true as remembered by the storyteller.
“Having the wine selections from Solovino intertwined with the sharing of stories from what I consider to be five incredible community thought leaders creates a truly special evening for those in attendance,” said Caroline Gwinn, Executive Director at Aiken Center for the Arts.
Plan an evening out this season at Aiken Center for the Arts where you can enjoy both exceptional stories and wine as you gather around for Stories From the Big Chair.
Limited seating is available at each Stories From the Big Chair event. Reserve your chair for $20.

Thursday, December 16: “Emerging”
This night focuses on forging and the craft of building our lives from the heat of change. In sync, metalwork from the Athens Metal Arts Guild as well as the Metal Arts Guild of Georgia will be on exhibition in the Main Gallery, stimulating your creative engagement with what it truly means to forge from flame.
